Tengard contains the active ingredient permethrin. It has a Flexible label allows unsurpassed control of ornamental and other perimeter pests. Tengard is one of the few insecticides that is actually labeled for bark beetles.  Sold in a one quart container, this product should be regularly be applied to the trunk and large branches of the tree for preventative control.  Coverage should include the trunk and branches down to 4-6″ in diameter.  Treatments should begin before beetles take flight (usually in early to mid Spring) and end when it cools off again in October or November.
