controlling chipmunks
Chipmunks usually have reddish brown colored fur with 3 to 5 dark colored stripes that run from the face down the length of the body and tail. They are between 3.5 inches to 6 inches long, and have brushy tails that are pointed straight up.
In most cases chipmunks are only a minor nuisance. In instances where they have become a threat to your property or landscape, control may be warranted.
Trapping is the most effective way to get rid of Chipmunks. Havahart offers a safe, effective live animal trap that comes ready to use.
Check traps often, releasing non-target animals. Release. After chipmunks are trapped they should be driven several miles away from your property and released or otherwise dispatched according to your local and state ordinances. Recommended Live Trap: Havaheart 24″Live Trap
Chipmunk-proof construction is a very important part of chipmunk control.
“Build them out” by eliminating all openings larger than 1 inch through which small squirrels can enter a structure. “Stuf-fIt” steel wool makes a good temporary plug. Seal cracks in building foundations and openings for water pipes, vents, and utilities with metal or concrete. Doors, windows and screens should fit tightly.
